New veg grower and advice needed pls

at an angle to face the sun, and also it helped to keep the plants off the ground and minimise any problems with slugs or snails. But I think you can just let them trail if you want to, as you would a courgette plant. Depends on where you want to put them. I by chilli lover

Beetroot cyclindra
them in April and thanks to the cold weather they're still quite small, but they do look like beetroot, and yours don't.  What else have you sown there? there are onions sturon on the left and cabbage greyhound on the right, ...loved by slugs & snails by nadiamaz

Have you seen one?????
lots of hoverflies around the flowers in my troughs a few days ago.  I've got lots of ladybirds,bees etc. I know it's not pc but I can't appreciate all this wildlife gardening stuff.  Along with the usual slugs and snails we enjoy the assistance of by susan howard2

 garlic or seaweed spray (along with other stuff) to deter pests like slugs/snails, green/blackfly in the garden only because one year,to much detergent was put into a spray used, in an attempt to kill blackfly on a blossom tree, the tree nearly died, hence, soapy by donutsmrs

and enriches the soil.  You can also use the liquid as an organic spray against slugs and snails but need to start spraying about March time before any infestations set in. It may even deter other pests. I don't think it kills pests, just puts them off eating by blair barnett

Broad beans again
-remove all the covering and leave them open to toughen up. Inspect the leaves it might be a rogue snail/slug that has not cleared off yet,something that has found a food source-difficult to say exactly what. so should I uncover them then and let them harden by blueberry77

'Freckles' in that bed - I have always found it quie a thug  Agree, but not much flowering for all the growth in my garden.  some great ideas and thanks for the photo! @ Busy L: I love hostas but the snails in my garden are achieving world dominance by ilovemontydon

Continuation of slugs
I was looking for the thread on slugs but can't find it now, there is quite a few subjects on the forum so this is just a continuation of slug probs. I can't bring myself to kill them or snails no matter how much damage they did last year by Flower bird

lovely seed head on them so will save that I know what you mean Geoff, not sure which the slugs/snails prefer Echineicias or Lupins. Did have a few planted out last year,but only 3 survived, the others were munched. Can't really remember how long by hollie hock
