Soil improvement
cultivate the soil in my new flower bed?  It is ash type soil with clay underneath and needs help.  I have bags of good quality multipurpose compost which is really for my pots later on but could I use this or should I buy some soil or similar matter by Susan O'Meara

Can anyone recomend a good soil testing kit. not too expensive? Hello aliesh, Funny....just bought one from homebase for someone yesterday.   £4. 99p.  Not been used yet but it's all you need.  They are in garden centres, b & q, etc I bought a PH by Aliesh

Soil on Grass
not to have used as much seed as I should have done and the levels are also not as good as I had hoped.  Primarily the soil I put down before seeding has got lower (possibly I did not tread it in hard enough).  The question is can I just add soil on top by bobloes

Soil or Compost??
I am planning growing veg in containers next year and have a list of seeds which are suitable for this purpose.  However, I am not sure if I can only use compost or would garden soil be suitable.  If it is compost, is there a particular type which by Mrs M

hi, could anyone tell me what sort of plants and veg will grow well in very stoney soil. The answer is not a lot, I'm afraid. What kind of stones are we talking about - mixed rubble as in a new build, or small stones throughout the soil? If rubble by elizabeth cooley

for the worms and frosts to play with.    It will get better and clay soil is very fertile. I had clay soil with stones in it 20 years ago. It was a nightmare. I did what obelix said. You needs lots and lots of manure and compost and some sand as well. I by tony adams

drench ,wait until it drys and cracks..... it took me a good year to break it down,i dont think there is a quick way of acheiving this, but i won in the end and anything ive planted has grown.  My horrible clay soil has just become OK after a lot by kevc
