squash seed germination
problems? I sowed some butternut squash indoors a few weeks ago and only one seed germinated, so three weeks later I sowed the rest of the packet and got 100% germination - it wasn't much warmer but probably just enough to make a difference. Yes, they need by greenfingaz

seeds not germinated
was too hot you may have baked them-what sort of compost are you using? Sometimes it is better to start them off indoors then move them to the greenhouse once germinated. Another thought - did you over-water them? Seeds need to be kept moist, not soaking by Debbie 11

How to prevent damping off?
I was wondering how others prevent damping off of seedlings?  I started another thread a little while ago about my meconopsis sheldonii seedlings damping off in the problemsolving forum.  I sowed more seeds and I'm very excited that they germinated by PurplePoppy

Early sowing
, overcrowded nature of my normal seed sowing! 80% of the seeds are now up and, despite removing the tray from the heat (its now just on an indoor shelf near the window in the house), the stems are an average of 2" long before the first pair of seed leaves by gatehill

How early can I plant out runner beans?
This isn't me getting too overexcited at the first prospects of spring, more that I may have planted my runner beans a bit too early. They're indoors, in 3" pots, but they're about 20-30cm tall already and the roots are beginning to creep out by Bf206

agricultural college and on the way to work passed fields growing 'opium poppies'. Nipped off my bicycle one day home and collected some seed heads . Sowed them but nothing happened - perhaps they are sterile - I really don't know but sure someone here will by chica

Help needed: Trying to identify a flower
the flowers alone and let the seed pods develop. Either then collect the seeds when the pod bursts and sow immediately or let the ants takes the seeds away and plant them for you. Thanks for that Berghill, they're literally just starting to die back a bit now by Hopeful_young_gardener
