Talkback: Growing potatoes and broad beans
's so nice to get out to the backyard and work together. Yeah, sometimes we bicker a bit, but that's just part of it and we both enjoy our time together. Beware of mice!!! I can't sow broad beans in the winter as mice soon find them. Watch out for little by cafay1

just made my 1st ever hanging baskets
presumably you can "unplant" them-put them back in pots-keep those frost free and replant nice healthy plants in a few weeks. Niviac, it is far too early to plant up with those plants...they need summer warmth and good light. If you can keep them indoors I by nivlac

suggest . I think I have made the mistake of planting my runner bean 'seeds' to early - they have been indoors and were growing up the kitchen wall already - so today I have planted them outside - I just hope its not too early and cold and they perish by Hannah_Banana_

it not be wiser to wait for spring to arrive before you sow your seeds ?, is it possible to buy methylated spirit or kerosene .   Derek can you not move them onto window sills for a week or so til the weather gets better? I wouldn't leave a candle unattended ever by Garden-Girl

A few random questions :)
work as this is a full time job in its self!!      To Phytographer...you say to sow more seeds with peas and beans, can I still do this because it says on the pack to sow till end of june. I do have spare seeds so could I  do them in the greenhouse by Loz

Can unsterilized compost ever be used for tomatoes?
results. It was a while ago now, what with a late start and prolonged cold/wet weather, but I think I might have tried germinating my seeds with my homemade (unsterilized) compost, not knowing that this is not recommended. After germinating indoors, my veg by purpleschnauzer
