that has flowered for 2 years running. I covered the crown with a good layer of straw and peat, and a big pot. Do you think it will bloom again this year or have I been foolhardy and lost the plant? I can't see any new shoots yet. I also grow canna lilies by Lorrie Flannery

/water etc from your aga. You could even tuck some little bulbs such as muscari in deep down in there too (under the bedding) for some spring colour, without the usua worry of it legging it off around the garden ... Just a thought. I've used this approach by artjak

. Perhaps we could do a duet. I agree with laid back our gardens need a rest like the rest of us. It will soon be spring and even with this dreadful weather there are some bulbs coming to life in my garden, I live in the North Pennines so it can't all be bad by willow

How to cover a slope with ivy cuttings
times. Another possibility might be rockery bulbs planted here and there. if you buy spring bulbs now you may still find some that are reduced to 50p a pack, as I did. They wouldn't flower this year, probably, but would recover from the late planting and flower by DONS1979

shade loving ground cover
terrace.  It has to compete with geranium macrorhizum - another good ground cover - and self seeded forget-me-nots.  The three look fabulous in spring with the flower heads on but I do cut back the flowers on the elder to stop it seeding. What doesn't look by Tigger Tom

What did you do in your garden today?
by the front door...        I bought 8 of the box ball plants from Tesco yesterday seeing as they have them on offer - 2 x plants for £20.   Love the patio arrangement LF. The box balls show off the bulbs beautifully. I can't compete with that. I cleared a by LeadFarmer

family have lovely flowers, make great annual climbers and don't need protection. I inter-plant peas and sweetpeas together and a lot of the lettuces are ornamental (if you can keep the slugs off!)I have put spring bulbs in round the fruit area and carrot by Jools

magnificent display of crocuses. A bad winter has meant that the spring flowers will all be flowering together - some tete-a-tete daffodils are already flowering, as well as pulmonaria and aconites and what a season it is for bloom and no blind bulbs. LAURA by JaneM

Climber to cover large wall
by red hips in autumn which are good for birds.  Combine this with a clematis montana for spring flowers and a scented honeysuckle for summer flowers and you have an extended season of interest.    All offer nectar for insects and thus food for birds by Dom
