.During the Spring, Summer and Autumn I do this fortnightly.Also during dryer weather I water the heap and cover with old compost bags to keep the moisture in the heap. by compost

Talkback: Preparing beds for planting
. In the first veg bed, I chitted some potatoes and now I have green leaves above the ground (all very exciting). In the other bed, I have Cougettes, which look like they have died. They were growing lovely on my window sill. Also added Carrot, spring Onion by joseph woosey

've found it invasive but easy to remove where unwanted. Leaves very smelly when crushed. Hi igreen - I find that I get better germination on my Astrantias if I sow seeds in the autumn and leave the pots outside in winter. Come spring and they germinate by igreen

in my plastic bin all last winter who obligingly turned my compost every day and once she had moved out in the spring I had the best crumbly compost ever! If you have a problem with rats it could be that you are adding meat bones or dairy by Anonymous

't mow it too much or too short - otherwise you'll have a fine patch of moss by autumn! As for the oak trees - it will prove difficult to get grass to grow under an oak tree to lawn standard - why not try naturalising spring bulbs and leave the grass by MarkD

now spot exactly where I need them in patches bare of any spring colour. I can even pretend I planned it that way! I buy weired and wonderfull bulbs and plants when we go to flower shows, last year at the Gateshead one I visited the dutchman on his by gardens.dj
