Talkback: Plant supports - upping the stakes
I have recently had a pergola built on a patio with squares of soil left for planting. My climbers are already planted & some came with small supports but have you any ideas on how I can support the plants as they grow apart from nailing green by Denise Pieri

Brussels sprouts
This is my first growing year and i am growing sprouts but the plants seemed to be leaning over. Is it OK to stake them so they are upright. The normal advice is to plant them down to the first set of leaves and firm the soil well which helps by diggers2

Unstable young birch tree
of the trunk.  All the other trees we purchased at the same time haven't had any problems since their stakes were removed.  Obviously we can't leave the birch tree staked forever so we thought we may dig up the tree in the autumn and plant it a foot or so by Hedge Hog

Hi Sue,  It sounds like some of the roots were damaged when the wind blew it over.  If there are a lot of branches and leaves, I would prune it when you re-stake it, so that the remaining undamaged roots aren't put under excessive strain by trying by Sue Morris

Support for roses
My roses have now been radically pruned after collapsing last yearin the high winds. They need staking / supporting and I am determined to sort thisout this year - very disappointed to have to prune them back so hard. Which supports do I use by Sandy 3

brown leaves on my broad beans
but hopefully you should still get a crop and the beans will be perfectly edible.   If your bean plants are flopping about a bit, try staking them with canes to allow air to flow between the plants - this will help reduce the spread. And don't compost the bean by bluejan

Rhyncospermum Jasminoides
I have recently bought one of the above and was thinking of putting in a planter in front of a wooden fence panel. Searches suggest it can grow to anything from 3 metres to 6 metres (currently about 1 metre). Will it need serous staking? Also by chilli lover
