can add sulphate of ammonia, dried blood etc but I would simply use a balanced fertiliser. I think that wold be just fine. Hi Lyn, while sawdust and similar woody matter does take nitrogen from the soil as it composts down, the good news is that bark by Lyn

feeding the ground??

, and don't need special care. Thank you very much for all of your advice.  I will give it some sequestrene feed or sulphate of ammonia and see what happens.  Thanks again.  I think my soil is alkaline not acid so that may be another reason for the leaves by Jan Wright

importantly, what should I feed to encourage growth? I feed mine with a high nitrogen fertilizer in the summer to encourage leaf growth - I use sulphate of ammonia sprinkled round the plants at the rate stated on the packet and forked into the surface. I would by Lorrie Flannery
