, the veg didn`t seem to mind. I, too, listen to my wind-up radio whilst working in the garden. It has the added bonus of also being powered by sunshine, so long sunny days need no pauses for winding. It is amazing the amount of information one can amass by fallen angel

Barnsley Lavatera
-barrel sized, minimum).  It'd be much happier and longer-lived in the ground though. It likes a sunny and well drained spot and will get to 7 feet tall and the same wide (and front-to-back) so is a fairly biggun. Not one of my favourite plants as they can get by Lesley 4

I've bought a Kangeroo Paws plant- but know nothing about them, for outside?
Paws Yes it is native Australian. Adapted to SUNNY, well drained, sandy soils and drought conditions. No it won't survive a UK winter, it'll need to be kept in a heated greenhouse or indoors. Treat as a short lived perennial. 3-5 years before it heads by lucky3

Hops
I fancy growing my own hops - for decoration in the house, rather than brewing (though what's the betting my OH can't resist th homebrew urge). Has anybody grown them with any success? The area I have in mind is a sunny willlow-screen covered fence by auntie betty
