My borage loves to escape from the veg patch to the borders, as do English marigolds. Valerian and buddlia do almost too much. But I love plants for free, not just because of my Scots ancestry but it means the plants are right at home with me. I by SuzieC

clay soil late summer flowers (slug proof but bee friendly)
plants that bloom Aug/sept. I love my heliopsis, tall yellow daisy flowers.Like to spread so keep it under control, but it will bloom for a good 8-9 weeks. Valerian, michaelmas daisy, marigolds, golden rod, gaillardia, all seem to love the clay. A by Ems2

Can anyone help identifying a plant?
's gardens.  It occupies a similar environment as the valerian which grows wild everywhere. It has grey-green foliage and a profusion of small white flowers which have come out in the last week or two.  Some of the clumps have grown really quite large by Lunarz

'weeds' at Chelsea
I am very disappointed with the show gardens that have been on television. Valerian and Cow Parsley is not something I wish to see at Chelsea nor Red Campion. It belongs in the lanes of Devon. I am desperately trying to get rid of valerian and take by Loraine Kelly

desperate to get mor beutterflies in the garden so I'll try anything! WIll go for the angelica sage and maybe the valerian this year Winter savory is good for bees.  Mine are covered in them when it's in flower, which is most of the summer.  I use the herb by catwoman1

it with a wire hanging basket. i think we have an old wire supermarket basket which will also do the trick... my cats just go loopy when they have had a goog roll around in it. My 12 year old cat discoverd valerian root the other day, after OH bought some by Ruth Varley

, but it is all part of the garden picture. I know the feeling. We have lots of valerian growing in our garden walls and it is such an attractive plant we can't bear to pull it out. Beware valerian in walls - the roots get very large and can wreak havoc. I've got by Claire8

what are these?
gardening in a rural or built up area? Only asking because it might give some insight as to whether these are seed borne weeds. Do you have valerian growing near you? It might be helpful if you can pull up one of these mystery seedlings and post a pic by Lorea

good wildflowers for low Victorian garden wall?
, or sow seed into modules and then push into crevices when well rooted. I have miles of toadflax on my Walls, no idea where it came from - but I yank it out periodically. Slugs and snails love sheltering behind it - be warned! And I wouldn't let valerian by freshairfanatic
