good wildflowers for low Victorian garden wall?
, or sow seed into modules and then push into crevices when well rooted. I have miles of toadflax on my Walls, no idea where it came from - but I yank it out periodically. Slugs and snails love sheltering behind it - be warned! And I wouldn't let valerian by freshairfanatic

Plants between concrete path and wall
would soon find: alchemilla, violets, valerian, ferns, ivy, holly, bronze fennel, buddleia, (as well as weeds of course, and ash seedlings)..But I'd probably welcome some of those. Valerian is tough enough to cope with rain shadow, and would give height by emilym

Not all bad news in the garden
persistent plants, such as the buddleas and valerian - I think because there is more room for them where the other plants haven't grown up.  The echinaceas and sweet peas on the other hand, are not happy! My sweet peas are not happy either nor is my phlox by Palaisglide

Clay soil problem
round your neighbours' gardens and find out what works for them.  a buddeia bush and some valerian(perhaps a white one) would surely not die on you, look lovely, andbring in the pollinators.  Roses will flourish too. We bought our bungalow last August by L0la

Talkback: Unseasonal weather
Primroses galore and primulas and wallflowers in my garden,Kate, so I am looking forward to my snowdrops. Some of the perennials like valerian have a foot of new growth on them. They say variety is the spice of life so we should welcome the change by kathryn.brock

Talkback: Unpleasant plant smells
hungry! There can be nothing worse imo than privet flowers.  They smell like cats wee, and it is particularly sickly on a warm day.  Needless to say, I have no privet hedges in my garden! Red Valerian, towards the end of the year.  Smells like something by Marinelilium

Talkback: Butterflies
once a fortnight. I also introduced some red valerian. The butterflies love it, especially when it starts to go to seed. The return of wildlife into the garden since I stopped trying to manicure it is amazing. Ten years ago I was living in Dumfries by John Waters
