Alternative uses for a shady raised bed
conifers on the other side of our shared fence, as this is the sunniest area of my garden I was thinking of starting a veg plot, but  a couple of you are saying it won't be good for veg.  Do you know how far away from conifer a veg plot should be and what by Alison Trafford

-fresh-fresh-food-supermarket.html   dmball, you are quite right.  The saying is 'carry the boiling water to the sweetcorn'.  In fact I find cooking sweetcorn in the microwave the best and certainly easiest; straight from the garden, or buy frozen kernels.  Ripen at home is just a lazy way by dmball

and sweet green way to fight pests and encorage wildlife.. more of this please. Try putting pots of marigolds in the greenhouse, you'll never have whitefly again. Also mix herbs in with the veg. I was going to have a separate herb garden but now I'll mix by Newcastle

the wildlife in rural suffolk. My husband bought me a ipod last year and I sing to the plants as I weed dig. We turned our garden into a far sized veg garden and the veg did fine, so although my husband says it`s not a pretty sight my singing in the garden by fallen angel

Gardeners World too short
Cand the BBC go back to an hour long GW programme, like it used to be. Whilst I love what we see now on the programme, there isn't enough on growing vegetables and fruit. Not just the pleasant part of growing veg and fruit, but all the problems by Freebie Queen

Helping Primary School
Hi I'm trying to develop the gardens in the school I work for, developing the two courtyards and plentiful but bare flower beds. I want to really get the children inspired about going and learning out side, growing their own plants and veg. Give by Debs3

Soil or Compost??
I am planning growing veg in containers next year and have a list of seeds which are suitable for this purpose.  However, I am not sure if I can only use compost or would garden soil be suitable.  If it is compost, is there a particular type which by Mrs M

Fruit trees
in the winter (making sure it is kept well away from the trunk). I have daffodils under mine so when the flowers are over I chuck organic fertiliser all round the area. When I have enough manure, having done the veg garden I do as Dove says. Thank you, will give by Aileen Hutton
