Talkback: How to make compost
to add my kitchen waste and ensured I had layers of cardboard but after several months the compost is no better. I put in grass cuttings, vegetable peelings, gone off fruit, tea bags, coffee grounds and egg shells as well as the cardboard. Any advice by jazcaz

students are very pleased that they have something growing in their new vegetable bed. The frost & snow beat them down a bit, but we've tied them to their wig-wam now, so they are fine.Hope yours are going to be OK. Broad Beans usually do well if planted by mizzzy

Slug invasion
', but that wouldn't work on my allotment as it has to be done frequently.  I've considered nematodes but have baulked at the cost of treating my plots. I have resorted to usuing slug pellets, which I apply under the nets to keep birds of fruit and brassicas by Campbell McKee

Help me identify shoots please
and they aren't very reliable. Why don't you buy a good book, with photos, about vegetable growing? I'll do that .. it's a bit spur of the moment and started with my mum and daughter, gardening centre, pack of seeds - It looks dead easy if you just read by Alan Howard

and others say it is necesarry to avoid creating a hard pan in the soil.Each situation is different depending on the history of your plot. I try not to dig my soil and simply mulch in the Autumn with well rotted compost or well rotted manure then cover by Baloo66

plot, the ones outside got blight and then it was transferred into the greenhouse (probably by me), I lost about 30 plants. So last year after thoroughly disinfecting the greenhouse I only grew them inside in grow bags-12 plants of assorted varieties by growing tomatoes

would like to know if old tres are a good thing to grow veg in.?? I have only 2 small vegetable plots in my garden [for broad beans, runner beans, courgettes,squash and marrow] so grow lots of things in containers. One of my water barrels split in all by chutneyhunter
