Talkback: Growing fruit and veg with children

beds. The defence in part I am sure is due to copper piping attached all around the edge. So, the 20-30 types of vegetables I'm growing this year are safe-ish. One night I did find a brave slug stretching more than double it's body length over by Cathy

planting broad beans
offered advice. I have been planting the seeds directly into the soil in my vegetable plot. I have planted at 2" but could be guilty of watering in which could have caused rotting of the seed. I will plant replacements in pots in my unheated greenhouse. I by Colrice

Talkback: How to build a raised vegetable bed
? Should I have different layers of materials ie Fertilizer, sand whatever as well as good compost. I intend to build a raised vegetable bed and notice that many people have placed a black membrane at the base and coming up the sides. Is this a weed by pattison

Where are my vegetables?
Is it just me are is everyone experiencing no show with stuff they've planted?  I dug up half of my garden (because it wasn't getting used for relaxing or entertaining etc) and decided to have a vegetable plot instead ( to try to cut the cost by Diane Horsley

.Spring wo'nt be long now, look out for the frogs and I've already seen wood pigoens pairing up thats a sure sighn,I think. Do what I did Pippa and dig it up and plant vegetables. I suspect the poigeons I see are already there and waiting for me to plant out by Pippa Greenwood

eaten! Was it the squirrels or badgers? My guess is the badgers - they certainly visit my vegetable plot and are so fond of carrots and parsnips I can't now grow them.Tomatoes? This year far and away the best in my greenhouse has been Golden Cherry by Barnwell Brian
