Viburnums, periwinkles, butchers broom, berberis in full shade
it would be suitable there. Periwinkles do very well, even the variegated variety. I've seen them thrive in really poor subsoil and rubble with no sun to speak of. Good luck! by djjjuk

Under a conifer
lots of roots near the surface that steal all the water. One plant that I have that does grow under a conifer and is evergreen is periwinkle (Vinca). Mine is Vinca Minor with lavender blue flowers and it's a bit of a thug to keep from spreading by Stephanotis33

Help
it if you have the right soil, and also Pieris. vinca (periwinkle) is tough and evergreen and flowers early on- (purples and there's a white variety too)and heucheras are also good in shade. Many of the gold and green Carexes  are also great in those by CalB

Purple foliage plants for shade?
'm certainly no expert, and I love Euphorbia (I currently have 8), but as you already have 2 lovely ones in that particualr space, I'd go for something different.  I'd put in a Vinca Major (Periwinkle).  Lovely yellow and green varigated leaves, with lilacy by Viola111

What is this plant with purple flowers ?
Does anyone know what this plant is ?  And if so, is it hardy ?  I saw it in a pot in a walled courtyard (in Oxford) - as you can see, it had a pretty substantial stem/trunk. Many thanks Hi sue, It's possibly some sort of periwinkle but I'm happy by sue 10

I think I know the answer but....
I am a volunteer with Age UK and I 'do' gardens for the less able.  A couple have recently moved in to a house with an established garden and part has what I am pretty sure is vinca planted.  Unfortunately the area has a membrane covered with bark by bobloes
