Talkback: Weeds and weather
Interesting when you talk about weed. In Germany you can buy Yarrow in almost every colour, which is a wonderful native butterfly- and a bee magnet. And Vinca is also sold here as a nice and very effectual ground-cover against weed!. Now that makes by kaycurtis20002000@yahoo.co.uk

Problem soil near sycamore
for beneath the canopy & around the trunk- Ivies (sorry), Lamiums, Vinca, Ajuga, small spring bulbs will grow happily though these until the canopy closes over later in the yr. Cyclamen. Bergenias & Heucheras & some hardy Geraniums will cope too. More plants by Mrs MacGregor

difficult spot - shade wise!
flowered area, what would you suggest? Thanks!! Hi jmeds-what kind of soil do you have and how big an area is it? There are lots of shade loving plants-hostas,ferns,periwinkle,euphorbia, heucheras etc but your conditions will make a difference! Thanks by jmeds

Dry Bank..need suggestions
would cover this area well, possibly something with a little bloom at some point in the year? As I said, Im quite new to gardening, some something hardy would probably be best. All suggestions welcomed. Many thanks. You could try Vinca 'Minor' or 'Major by JASON GRAHAM

trailing plants for semi shade
, however i need some suggestions for trailing plants to cover the ugly concrete wall. Again I would give a vote for Vinca Minor. Some of the Lamiums have lovely foliage and are ground cover Pam x thanks for that will look into both of those... i dont by jamee

, and are tough. Vincas provide strong ground cover. Ornamental grasses like carex and festuca might be good. The RHS website  has a garden planner where you can feed in information about your needs and get a list of plants. Just type rhs,org,uk/plant selector by MontyDan

Underplanting silver birch
with the astilbes adding a fuzz of colour in the dappled shade. Try hellebors or a carpets of vinca minor. I'll just list a few plant ideas, maybe nice to add in some bulbs too: English bluebells, Snowdrops, Cyclamen, Liriope muscari, Lamium, Bergenia, Tellima, Wood by cat woman

North Facing Front Garden
the choice & success of some plants. With that aspect the best colour will usually be in the spring when any overhead tree canopy is less. Heucheras, hardy geraniums- lots to choose, spring bulbs, tellima, epimediums, lamiums, vincas- the last 3 all excellent by sarahandrob

Egg identification - any ideas?
that I had. Very spherical in shape   This was in periwinkle and is more oval shaped.         i think its a fertilizer of some descirption.  I've seen these in pots ive bought from garden centres too. Slow release fertilizer -not eggs-leave them alone Ah by Amy-new-at-this
