. If congestion, pull a few up to give space, pinch out runners or encourage them to root in 3" pots so they can be easily moved and help your over crowding problem @Scott - I only ever get 1 year out of my potted strawbs as the Vine weevil always get them, soil by benjamin9876

loads of plants to put in that I had not washed the roots, as I try to keep imported vine weevil out of my garden. So perhaps you could wash the roots of your roses. As for the crocuses, plant them quite deep as they will find their own way up if need by Liz Ward

buried snails
slug noshers but also like ground beetles young frogs and birds eggs but seem to avoid vine weevil like the plague   I've just been reading about someone who puts short lengths of guttering over lids filled with slug pellets who said it seemed to work by diggingdoris

tall pots with the bottom cut out in the bags and plant the tomatoes into the pot, this gives you more soil to grow in and helps to retain water too. The pots are the type that you buy roses in. Whatever you are growing be vigilant about the vine weevil by growing tomatoes
