experiences with free offers of plants
most of these are growing, 9 out of 21 show no signs of life. Maybe I have not dealt with them in the right way, or maybe I am unlucky, but I do have a reasonably successful garden. I would say that the instructions that come with the plants are not all by Jennie McWalter

Acer assistance - NEWBIE NEEDS HELP!
gardening They're probably just a bit too wet and over fed - when they were snugly cuddled up to Mum she would have taken up all the excess moisture. Now they're in their own compost it's a different matter - it's new compost so will hold the water even by Amy Smith

Talkback: Bumblebees and wax moth
. Yesterday evening I was in the garden watering and I stood and watched a leaf cutter bee cutting out a leaf for its nest, the size of leaf it cut out was so much bigger than the bee but it had no trouble flying off with it. It was just an amazing thing by Greenwatch

snails
Ive a big problem with snails in my garden.  I went out last night armed with torch and salt but there were hundreds! -I hate killing anything but my garden is being destroyed.   Please help As they say - you can't have everything. Beer traps mean by MOLLY4

I disappear to a warmer land for 3 months in winter. This year I have two 3 foot high avocados doing well in sheltered corners of my garden.Has any one suggestions about helping them survive the winter eg smothering in compost & horse manure by jk

this year...thanks for the prompt You can get fresh turmeric in Indian and Thai greengrocers - it's surprisingly easy to grow. I got mine last year from the Grenada Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show. Red Baron still fine to plant, just keep the sets well by juliamalone@sky.com

and yes sometimes use twiggy bits in garden...to keep jacadaws and pheasant off plants. dead hedges sound good. In the past we've cut the branches off the tree and left them for a few years to rot down in a bucket of water - the compost is slightly acidic by Ben Linsell
