Inspiration needed! Sunken patio/lawn edging
to plant that would provide enough of a deterrent/barrier whilst still letting light through. Other suggestion is to build a sort of 'window box' along the top of the wall, but again, what to plant it with? Any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully received by Smithers

Swifts
I'm a bit excited.  I've just watched a pair of swifts go under the fascia boards.  Resident sparrow made a noisy exit. Super, Welshonion. Next door neighbour has 4 swift nesting boxes under the eaves, just saw the first ones arrive today too by Welshonion

Early sowing
is usually about right.  Centrally heated rooms are too warm.  To maximise light, you can place part of a cardboard box covered in tin foil behind them, so the front of the seedlings get light directly from the window and the back of the plants get light by gatehill

from his latest meal! This year I am proud to announce a nesting pair of Blackbirds in my ivy, right over my kitchen window! Already, I have observed the female bird doing all the nest building, although the male stood guard and even brought her by Terri Quincey
