Making a woodland garden
We have acquired a woodland area at the bottom of our garden (formerly a green belt). Would like to plant woodland flowers , shrubs etc. but not sure how to keep unwanted weeds and grass at bay.  Also interested to know how Monty Don maintains his by woodlandgardener

Talkback: Growing woodland anemones
And I only have to visit the Woodland Edge Garden at the Bristol Botanic Garden where A. blanda, nemorosa and pavonina among other species are carpeting the ground right now. I plant A. blanda in the green and have been successful in getting them by happymarion

Soil problem? (Newly created woodland area)
We've noticed growths of green algae and mossy stuff appearing on top of the soil in our woodland garden. We dug it over completely in the late spring and we're in the process of creating a woodland area. There is dappled shade from a neighbour by wisehedgecrone

Thanks for this, I'm keen to build up a collection of native woodland plants like these. Can anyone suggest any others? I already have foxgloves and cowslips - further suggestions gratefully received! Happy gardening! Pulmonnaria and Aquilegia by Burly_Elmwood

Talkback: Oak trees
I looked up the Stelmužė oak on Google Maps - they reckon it's under a lake My garden backs onto a park of ancient woodland in North London. Mostly oak and hornbeam, but the old oaks with their great extending boughs were very damaged by the 1987 by desmond54321

Pruning Rhododendons - how? Help needed!
Hi! We have a very large and leggy Anthony Waterer rhodo which looks too big for its position in our newly created woodland garden. We'd like to prune it, but is it OK to cut it back hard without doing damage? And if so, how long, approximately by wisehedgecrone
