composting
for the rhodo leaves - they seem to take for ever to break down in woodland, so I presume they'd take for ever in the compost heap too.  I think I'd put them in a brown bin or burn them, or if you have enough room for a really wild corner then I'd put them by nightgarden

Bark mulch
. And magpies prefer picking meat. We're in a small village surrounded by farmland and woodland, so you name it, we've got it! Me thinks the rascels that delight in the major reclamation projects in our garden are the blackbirds and thrushes. I just read a post by DavesBonnyLass

Edging for bed
in the veggie patch.   We've used 9" high concrete "log roll" to edge paths in the woodland garden and hold back the soil and plants. I can recommend them all as edgers but you'd need something stouter than the log rolls to retain soil so I would go for wooden by bunnysgarden

Encouraging bats in our gardens
We talk a lot on here about encouraging beneficial wildlife in our gardens but not a lot about bats.  Did you know a tiny pipistrelle can consume 3,000 midges in one night? We used to have a colony of about 30 when we moved here about 20 years ago by obelixx

Side of House
as it hasn't been dug. A closer view.  Our front garden is very bare & I need some ideas for that, but thought it best to do a bit at a time. If it's a suitable place to plant something, when would be best? Other problem - the landscaper is family & you know by Highland Jeannie

Tree sparrows & house sparrows.
do you tell if they're tree or house sparrows ? We live near woodland so I would be inclined to think '' tree'' but to be honest I looked in my bird book and they both look pretty similar . Is it just me or does there seem a lot more about ? Tree by jean riley
