Woolly aphids
I have discovered my crab apple tree has woolly aphids. What is the best way to treat it?. It has been suggested that I need to cut it down. I have blasted it with a pressure washer several times and also sprayed it with a general bug killer by Busybee29

woolly aphid on crab apple tree
Have had my crab apple tree for about 10 years. Woolly aphid appeared 2 summer's ago. they are disfigering the branches and seem to over winter on the tree. Is that possible? They make a mess of the plants underneath. I don't use pesticides, has by Lynda T

hi can you help me i have 3 apple trees and 1 as got woolly aphids all over have put grease around trees and i winter wash in winter and spring but its still there have looked on inter net to no avail? by colin_ritchie

on the leaf. They do not look like the clusters of woolly aphids I see but the leaves are turning brown. by LucyG

What is on this apple tree?
Can anyone help please?  I work in a garden where there is a large old and tall crab apple tree that has lots of white wolly bits all over it.  I think this is woolly aphid and wonder how I can get rid of it organically or will I have to use by pipsqueak2

Azalea disease
and the fungus sometimes resembles a white hollowed out insect nest. Any ideas? We didnt pot the plant and I was thinking the soil may be too limey!?   Brycey, any chance of a pic? I think the plant may have woolly aphid, if so, it can be treated with a systemic by Brycey D

difference! Thanks! Hello Tamsin  I think they are some sort of  aphid casings- aphids suck sap from the leaves so would make the leaves look unhealthy Pam LL x looks like dead cockchafers gone white or woolly aphids.mystery! If the lemon tree isn't too big by Tamsin101

in any meaningful quantity for months.Broad bean pods have a nice overcoat of blackfly, and 'soft' bedding like nicotiana has greenfly.There are a few woolly aphid appearing on my apple trees, but I treat at first sight with the soapy spray SB Plant by delmonte
