pond to stay clear and healthy and not freeze in winter it should be at least 18" deep in the deepest bit, but it can have shallower shelves as well. It should be big enough to put oxygenating plants and some other pond plants in it. About a metre wide

, if the opportunity arises.Temperatures are forecast to stay above freezing here, so whatever falls may turn to slush. Snow stopped now - nothing stuck. Sky def has a grey cast, maybe more up there.   We have snow.  Started last night with just half an inch or so

got it,,, I'm not that impressed,,,, It's no defence when the pond freezes over and that's when I loose most fish.  I keep the pump going so that it doesn't completely freeze so that gases can escape, and have seen 3 herons sitting on the ice
