peas and frost

On 09/05/2012 in forum

Hello I have grown some peas in pots as last year the wood pigeons got them. I would like to plant them out now but am worried about frost. Will frost damage peas?   No-well not at this time of year. Ok thank you. I was not sure as two years ago

Frosted tulips

On 17/04/2012 in forum

There was a hard frost last night and now my tulips are drooping. Will they right themselves again or should I stake them? Just leave them alone, as they warm up they will standup again. Thanks MF, first Q&A on this board! They are halfway up now

frosted lilies

On 07/04/2013 in forum

Back in March, when we had a few nice days, quite a few of my potted lilies decided to grow.  They got to between 4 - 7 inches in height, nice bushy leaves on top.   Then came the snow and very, very hard frosts with wind chill.  Most of the tops

On 15/01/2009 in Plants

Protecting bulbs from frost

On 06/01/2012 in forum

Due to the balmy winter, a lot of my bulbs (tulips, daffs and crocuses) are already breaking well through the soil and the crocuses are starting to flower. Is there a cheap and easy way to protect these all when the later frosts and snow inevitably

Rose pruning and frost

On 17/02/2013 in forum

This is probably a daft question, but when gardening mags and books say don't prune roses in time of frosts, what exactly do they mean? If there was a frost in the morning, but it's gone by lunchtime can you prune in the afternoon

Fruit trees - damaged by frost

On 20/05/2012 in forum

Er - what was your question? Frost damage will heal itself, you need do nothing. If you lost fruit as a result, there's nothing you can do other than wait for next spring. Sorry, don't know where my question went! And no, it's not about lost fruit
