when growing basil, it does have a habit of going black and dying when grown outdoors. I only grow it in the greenhouse or on a hot sunny windowsill now - with better success !! To sum it up - it just doesn't like the cold, nor being rained upon. Thanks

in that pot - chives grow like grass, single strands so don't spread. As they grow on you can simply divide if you feel it is a little crowd. For your basil sow a little less than the chives. Also, basil do not like the cold - grow on in a greenhouse or a sun

house and I did put the pots in large freezer bags so they did not get cold. I'm trying for the uptieht time to grow Basil. This time around about 3 seeds have germinated. At least they are still alive and have not died in the great damping off disaster
