dry? The shrubs will take a considerable amount of water! When I gardened on london clay the hostas stayed in big pots - far too many slugs! Here they grow with hardy fuchias and epimediums, though the fuchsias are somewhat reduced this year by awful

of growing a patch of comfrey to make fertiliser or addd to the compost heap. Phlox spreads too much, not to mention epimedium. I could go on..... Phlox and epimediums are lovely, though, and you can easily dig 'em out! And no one would be without mint

. Thanks Alina W, This sounds just the sort of thing , I will try the ajuga  and if this works with not letting anything grow through it then maybe their are  other  plants that  I can go for so I get a good mix I shall scour the gardening pages. Ground
