Growing salad crops

There's a lot more to a great salad than lettuce. Apart from a nice assortment of colourful leaves and a slight crunch if they're fresh, I'm not convinced that lettuce adds much more to salad than bulk!I prefer to grow salad leaves with real flavour

like basil but haven't grown Chinese greens. Try rubbing the leaves and smelling it, you'll know if it's basil by the smell.    Something like pak choi or one of the many variants possibly from a mix of salad leaves - that's my best guess  Looks like

Edible flowers

Why do people turn their noses up at edible flowers? What could be more delicious than beautiful chive heads tossed into a salad? They add quite an intense burst of onion flavour when eaten - probably more powerful than chopped chive leaves
