Right, I thought you plant them, they produce flowers, you take off the dead heads, feed and the foliage sucks up the grub and the bulb gets the energy to give next years growth and more importantly flowers. Now, my mum says only botanical tulips

if there are more but so far they are ok   I wonder if the spider has been eating the lily beetle or the grubs, and this has turned it pink?  It's probably the beetle that has been decimating your lilies, it's bright red, the eggs are laid on the underside


Large black insects on my Solomon's Seal

Each stem has one very black insect on it that looks (vaguely) like a housefly. Does anyone know what these are and if they'll harm the plant? They are solomon's seal sawfly. The grubs will eat every scrap of greenery on the plant and just leave

. Check the roots are intact and check for vine weevil grubs - if everything is ok. Re-pot into a bigger pot with good quality fresh compost and feed after 6 - 8 weeks. Bays are very tough and can spring back to life.  Thanks marshmello.  I will do


What is this insect?

squashed in error It looks like a Chafer larvae to me.  I find them when I dig up lawn to make new flower beds.  They eat grass roots mainly I think. That little beauty is a chafer grub, they eat grass and plant roots and they are the food for many birds

will sever the stems,of some plants and there are other soil pests but snails are the likely culprits   Could it be vine weevil grubs having a munch on the roots?  I've had this sort of effect with heucheras & saxifrages, although not bedding plants (yet.....!!)
