This is the first year that my aquafolium Ilex has had only one berry on and this is well hidden from the birds. I am lucky to have friends that allow me to prune there Ilex's for them so I have avast amount to play with in teaching workshops

. It is an Ilex Aquifolium 'Alaska'. Any helpful comments gratefully received. Claba, Grantham, Lincolnshire. If there aren't any green ones now, you won't get any red ones later. I have a poor year for holly berries this year. Summer 2012 to blame again


Hedging

I wish to plant a small hedge at the road end of my garden.   To deter dogs I am thinking of Holly, not only for the prickles but also I assume the tough shiny leaves will be less damaged by urine.    Although no spines I would prefer Ilex Golden
