.In the meantime, hungry birds will make short work of seedheads and do a much better job of finding slug and snail eggs than I ever could. The frogs will bed down in their hibernaculum and among leaf piles, and the mouse, worms, slugs and beetles will stay warm

anything too deeply - especially plants like this violet that is making the effort to grow already.As I have said before I make a lot of compost here but there is never enough to mulch the whole garden so, every other year I buy a trailer load of the stuff

you dig in, so your fleece will not deplete the soil. The worms will be perfectly happy doing what worms do, especially if you have added compost. Happy gardening! I recommend azadas for digging with. A quick web search will find you a supplier

Have done what we can to improve the soil in our garden as it is still really heavy clay soil making it hard work. We have some shrubs to keep us going but need more colour that is long lasting and that needs little looking after. Clay soil

of staff could make the compost off-site.  Perhaps the pupils could bring in shredded paper, peelings (you can wrap them in newspaper and just chuck them in the compost), tea bags and coffee grounds, etc. Or you could start a wormery. Or several. Good luck

have about two barrow's of compost very light in structure from each bin after the worm's have done there work.It's time for a good prune to get thing's back in to some sort of shape. It is debateable, some say digging destroys the soils structure
