Not got the greatest of lawns but boyfriend noticed this morning large patches of egg shaped stuff on the grass/moss/weeds! It looks like small grapes, are they some kind of buf larvae? Seem quite large for bugs though, any ideas would be helpfuly

I would love to grow a few vegetables and fruit but the ground is hard, stony and full of grass, weeds and moss. Apparently it probably has never seen a spade in it's live and neighbour reckons I'll end up with a sore back if I try and dig it over
first thing every morning and the result is a brown patch 3-6 inches (moss and all dead). Getting the hose out is not practical as she is very quick and its not easy to see where , interestingly the outcome for the smaller patches is rich green grass
