that you can get rid of them is to dig them out or weedkill them, I'm afraid. Other than that, mowing regularly should reduce their vigour. thanks alina, i think i will dig them out and re-seed because there is only 3

green, does it really matter if it's in the lawn?  It's green and grassy.   The main thing is to keep your edges trimmed and stop it escaping into the borders where it is a nightmare to weed. They do say that frequent mowing encourages the finer grasses

agree about the mowing. Autumns are much warmer. Personally I hate mowing and wish it would stop earlier but I have still found myself mowing up until about December over the past couple of years - I think it may be the lawn's revenge for all

or you'll scalp it - but regular little and often - at this time of year it should be growing well (particularly after all the rain we've had) so it probably needs mowing twice a week if possible.  In the summer lawns should be cut at least once a week

Hi to you all and a good 2013 to you, ok I am moving house soon and have a huge garden which will need a gardener, but it has just me and my husband, so we thought maybe make a grass pathway which we can mow and have wild flowers, like poppies
