Heavenly horticultural fleece
Posted by: Pippa Greenwood, 20 September 2007, 09.00AMThank heavens for fleece. I have yet to discover exactly what it is made from, and I suspect that it may not fit totally in to the 'environment friendly/recycled' preference that I have...but it is great stuff. I wish it was made from shredded fizzy drinks bottles like the sort of fleeces humans have taken to wearing, it'd be great if someone could tell me.
All of a sudden our so-called and heavily-promoted Indian summer is showing its true British allegiances and the temperature suddenly plummets at about 6pm. So yes, the fleece is draped all over the place in the veg plots. A bit of snugly-protection for my sweet potatoes (I'm growing Bearegard and Jetfire this year, it'll be interesting to see how they fare!) and some vital, please-grow-a-bit-faster and make it-to-the-end-of-the season-protection for some late sown Chinese greens and pak Chois. How did I cope before its super-light-weight protection came in to my life? The great thing is that when it is attached to the wire hoops of a pull-out tunnel, I can even secure it over taller crops without wasting any raspberry-picking time!
