Take rose cuttings

If you have a passion for roses, why not try taking cuttings of your favourites? It's easy to do, and although it'll be two or three years before they bloom, the flowers will be worth the wait - and just think of the savings!
Takes just 45 minutes

Flowers

  • Buy tulips now while they're fresh in garden centres
  • Plant daffodils and crocus in pots
  • Lift and pot up tender perennials

Fruit & veg

  • Pick ripe apples and store the best in fruit crates
  • Dig up strawberry runners and pot them up
  • Net autumn raspberries and blackberries

Greenhouse

  • Scrub off shading paint and wash the glass thoroughly
  • Listen out for weather forecasts of early frosts
  • Ventilate the greenhouse on warm days

Around the garden

  • Raise the cutting height of your lawn mower
  • Wash out and top up bird baths regularly
  • Stretch netting over ponds and water features
