Grow cacti

Try something new by growing some fun, spiky cacti from seed. Their weird and wonderful shapes look great indoors or out (if our summers stay dry) and, as they don't need much attention, they're just the ticket if you don't have a lot of spare time.
Takes just 20 minutes

Flowers

  • Cut back overgrown honeysuckle
  • Pick berried winter shrubs, flowers and evergreen leaves
  • Plant bare-rooted hedging, roses, trees and shrubs

Fruit & veg

  • Prune gooseberry bushes
  • Fork over vacant beds, mixing in compost
  • Plant fruit trees trained as cordons, fans or espaliers

Greenhouse

  • Clear leaves from greenhouse gutters
  • Check heaters daily to ensure they are working efficiently
  • Pick off dead flowers and leaves

Around the garden

  • Wash out flower pots and seed trays
  • Trim back climbers that are close to gutters and windows
  • Test the pH of your soil with a kit
