Surrounding the castle are 12 acres of gardens filled with a wide range of flowers, shrubs and trees. The spectacular 400-year-old ‘elephant hedge’ – rounded, undulating and neatly clipped – divides the formal 17th-century terraced gardens, while a circular castellated yew hedge encloses a formal rose garden. Beyond is a series of garden rooms with deep borders of perennials and shrubs.
Important update
With the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, gardens in the 2-for-1 directory are beginning to open.
To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, many have special measures in place, including pre-booking and limiting the number of visitors.
Before visiting a garden, please contact the garden directly to determine their opening status and any restrictions that may apply.
Please note: we’re unable to keep all individual 2-for-1 garden pages updated, but we will publish the latest details that we have on our weekly updates page from week commencing Monday 8 June, 2020.
