This mountainside estate and former home of John Ruskin combines gardens and woodland. Restoration over the past 30 years has added modern interpretations of Ruskin’s original ideas. Highlights include bluebells, rhododendrons and azaleas, as well as ferns, herbaceous planting and wildflowers. Woodland walks lead out onto the moorland above, offering wonderful mountain and lake views.
Important update
With the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, gardens in the 2-for-1 directory are beginning to open.
To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, many have special measures in place, including pre-booking and limiting the number of visitors.
Before visiting a garden, please contact the garden directly to determine their opening status and any restrictions that may apply.
Please note: we’re unable to keep all individual 2-for-1 garden pages updated, but we will publish the latest details that we have on our weekly updates page from week commencing Monday 8 June, 2020.
