Designed with views and vistas in mind, this is a rare surviving example of an 18th-century landscape garden. From the neo-classical chapel to the walled garden and ornamental ponds, the many original features combine to form one of the grandest designed landscapes in the north of England. There are woodlands and meadows to explore, as well as the original orangery and ruins of Gibside Hall.
With the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions, gardens in the 2-for-1 directory are beginning to open.
To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, many have special measures in place, including pre-booking and limiting the number of visitors.
Before visiting a garden, please contact the garden directly to determine their opening status and any restrictions that may apply.
Please note: we’re unable to keep all individual 2-for-1 garden pages updated, but we will publish the latest details that we have on our weekly updates page from week commencing Monday 8 June, 2020.
