In the walled garden, enjoy the serene contemporary plantings of grasses and perennials. There is an ornamental potager and an abundance of fragrant roses, plus a maturing American prairie and winter garden. You can also take a stroll along the burn, through the woodlands and down to the sea. There’s nothing like seeing that first tentative cluster of snowdrops to make the heart leap with thoughts of spring. Cambo Gardens in Fife is home to a National Collection of snowdrops, boasting over 200 varieties. We have Lady Magdalen Erskine to thank for her work in proliferating them. From the 1930s, she and her eight children would spend hours at a time, digging, dividing and redistibuting them throughout the family estate. The family has continued this tradition, stressing the importance of planting ‘in the green’. Following the white-carpeted banks of babbling burn down to the coast, where you can see a variety of visiting birdlife. Before setting off, always check the garden’s website or call direct for up-to-date opening times and other ticket price options, and any one-off restrictions which may apply.
