The spectacular Italianate parterre is one of the finest formal gardens in Europe, its colourful, manicured plantings laid out in a geometric design based on a St Andrew’s cross. Other interesting features include a kitchen garden, woodland walks, a majestic copper beech tree planted by Queen Victoria in 1842, and ancient yew hedges.
