Often visited by Jane Austen, these gardens are part of an estate once owned by one of her brothers. Lovingly restored and tended, the gardens feature terraces, a walled garden, fernery and rose garden, a wilderness with meandering paths and mature trees, and manicured lawns with views of the parkland beyond. The new herb garden is laid out in four areas according to the plants’ medicinal uses.
Due to ongoing rule changes in response to the coronavirus pandemic, public gardens may experience unforeseen restrictions and opening hours. To avoid disappointment we advise you contact gardens directly before visiting. Please see the individual garden’s website.
