Set into the side of the cliff with wonderful views over the Kingsbridge and Salcombe Estuary, this garden was developed in Edwardian times. A wealth of subtropical, exotic and Mediterranean plants thrive in this warm Devon microclimate.
With views across Devon’s Salcombe estuary, Overbeck’s Garden is home to many exotic, subtropical and Mediterranean plants. Its Edwardian terraces include an olive grove and a banana garden. Otto Overbeck, the former owner, was a bit of an eccentric, who believed he could reverse the ageing process. In the 1920s he patented his ‘electrical rejuvenator’, which required users to attach electrodes to their face! Fortunately, these beautiful gardens overlooking the sparkling sea provide a far more enjoyable sense of rejuvenation.
