Garden highlights
Day 1: Welcome drinks, plus dinner with wine at the hotel
Day 2: We kick off with a real highlight, a guided tour from the head gardener at Thenford Arboretum, the home and iconic gardens of former deputy PM, Michael Heseltine and his wife Anne. The gardens and arboretum which now cover over 70-acres, have been lovingly restored since being purchased in 1976, with advice from many horticultural leaders of the time, including Sir Harold Hillier, Roy Lancaster and Lanning Roper. Here we'll be joined by Adam Frost for lunch with wine in the Church Barn, where he will give a talk, followed by Q&A. Guests will also receive a signed copy of Thenford: The Creation of an English Garden.
Day 3: We continue our tour at Miserden Estate, which won the HHA Garden of the Year Award in 2018 for its ongoing revival of this historic site. Then we travel on to Painswick Rococo Garden, where the head gardener will show us around this unique pleasure garden created in the 1740s, with its quirky follies and fascinating stories.
Day 4: We'll enjoy a morning privatelyexploring the gardens of Rodmarton Manor, which are among the best examples of the Arts and Crafts movement in this country. After an included light lunch here, we then head for a guided tour at Upton Wold, where its hidden garden contains an exceptional collection of trees, shrubs and plants.
Day 5: Our final day starts with a morning visit to Bourton House’s idyllic gardens in the company of the head gardener, exploring the three acres of rich planting. Created by the present owners over 25 years, the gardens’ high-impact borders featured on BBC Gardeners’ World TV in 2019. There'll be a brief visit to the picturesque town of Chipping Campden where lunch can be taken, before our tour by the head gardener at Sezincote – ‘a piece of India’ in the Cotswolds. The 200-year-old Mughal palace sits in a romantic landscape of temples, grottoes, waterfalls and canals reminiscent of the Taj Mahal.
