Soak up the Spanish sun

Now that nature is in full bloom, it’s the perfect time to explore HPB’s enchanting garden retreats overseas – starting with El Pueblito de Alfaix, a private resort in southern Spain that’s been built to resemble an Andalucian village.

Alfaix is an idyllic setting for a summer escape, with gardens that have been lovingly designed from scratch with great care and attention to detail. In a wonderful contrast to the Moorish-style whitewashed villas and apartments, the landscaped grounds are a riot of colour, with swaying palms, winding pathways and spectacular views of the Sierra Cabrera mountains.

You can even taste the fruits of the garden during your stay, as the oranges are used to make marmalade and fresh juice, and the lemons provide a garnish for drinks. If you visit later in the year, you might spot the luscious dates growing, which can be harvested and eaten from October onwards.

Escapes across Europe

There are plenty of other scenic HPB destinations to explore, too. For instance, Corregia in Puglia, Italy, is home to a small group of traditional trulli dwellings, nestled within the rolling Mediterranean countryside. Due to the warm climate, the area is dotted with lemon, walnut and carob trees, along with countless olive groves, which are the source of the region’s world-famous olive oil.

Further west, you’ll find the clean white buildings of Rocha Brava in the heart of the Algarve. Set against a backdrop of endless blue skies, its gardens are a vibrant haven bursting with vivid pink bougainvillea flowers and lush green foliage.

Meanwhile, over in France, Manoir du Hilguy is not to be missed. Tucked away in Brittany, this magnificent 18th-century château is set within elegantly landscaped gardens, where you can take relaxing afternoon strolls among the rhododendrons. There are many other historic buildings for you to see in the surrounding countryside as well, should you want to explore the area.

Of course, these are just a few of the breathtaking gardens you can visit with HPB – and they’re all available for Bondholders to enjoy every season, year after year.

Exclusive holidays for life: An initial payment from £5,000 and a quarterly fee of under £38 (that is around £150 a year), which can increase in line with, but not exceed, the Retail Price Index Excluding Mortgage Interest (RPIX), gives you access to all HPB’s holiday homes. For each HPB holiday, you will pay a no-profit user charge covering only property running and maintenance costs and use of on-site facilities. The average charge is the same throughout the year, and for a studio is around £372 a week and £569 for a two-bedroom property. Larger properties are also available. After an initial charge of 25% your money is invested in a fund of holiday properties and securities. The fund itself meets annual charges of 2.5% of its net assets at cost, calculated monthly. Your investment return is purely in the form of holidays and, as with most investments, your capital is at risk. You can surrender your investment to the company after two years or more (subject to deferral in exceptional circumstances), but you will get back less than you invested because of the charges referred to above, as well as other overheads and changes in the value of the fund’s properties and securities.
