Cercidiphyllum japonicum is known as the Katsura tree or toffee apple tree due to the scent of its autumn leaves. In spring, leaves are flushed pink then turn green in summer, before changing to shades of yellow, purple and red in autumn and releasing a sweet toffee-like fragrance as they fall.
