Wallflowers are one of Monty Don‘s favourite spring bedding plants and they’re cheap to buy in autumn as bundles of bare-root plants. Daffodils too can be bought relatively cheaply in large sacks in autumn. Combined, they create a vibrant mass display in spring.

In this video clip from Gardeners’ World, Monty shows you how to plant two vibrant and richly fragrant wallflowers – ruby ‘Blood Red’ and orange ‘Fire King’, interspersed with daffodil bulbs of ‘Martinette’ and ‘Trevithian’. For expert tips on planting and spacing so you can recreate this bold spring display, watch the video now.
