Assuming that a gooseberry plant is in good health, with glossy, green leaves, then fruits are most likely to fall off as a result of dry soil. Young berries often abort when conditions are not ideal for their development, and juicy gooseberries have a very high water content.

Keep your plants well watered and mulch heavily around the entire root area with compost, or well-rotted manure.
