Heucheras are shade-loving plants, native to the woodlands of North America.
Much valued for their colourful, clump-forming foliage, they also bear attractive flowers in summer that attract pollinating insects. They make excellent ground cover plants, too.
A cross between heucheras and tiarellas, heucherellas have brightly coloured foliage. Like heucheras, they thrive in shade and work well as ground cover. Some have a trailing habit and can be grown in hanging baskets.

Vine weevil problems
Heucheras and heucherellas can be prone to vine weevil attacks. Keep an eye out for the adult beetles, which might suggest the root-feeding larvae lurk below the surface. Predatory nematodes can be bought to deal with the problem.
