Native to Peru, Alonsoa warscewiczii bears masses of brilliant scarlet flowers on strong, wiry stems, in contrast with rich green leaves. It looks lovely grown in large clumps at the front of a sunny, mixed border, and makes an interesting cut flower.

Grow Alonsoa warscewiczii in well-drained soil in full sun. A tender perennial, plants may be overwintered in a heated greenhouse or conservatory. Alternatively, sow fresh seed each year. Plant outside when all risk of frost has passed.
