Hakonechloa is a genus of beautiful, low-growing ornamental grasses. Forming gently arching mounds, hakonechloas are perfect for softening the edges of a path or growing in a pot. They look fantastic when planted alongside more formal plants, such as box, Buxus sempervirens. Its architectural blooms can be dried and used in flower arranging.
Hakonechloa macra 'Alboaurea’ has gorgeously striped, yellow and green foliage. The leaves keep their colour throughout the season, and sometimes develop a red hue. From late summer, attractive pale green flower spikes appear.
For best results, grow Hakonechloa macra 'Alboaurea’ in moist, humus-rich soil in partial shade. Cut foliage down before new growth starts in spring and mulch annually with well-rotted manure or compost.
